TREATMENT FOR MISS DHANIKA TRIPURA

TREATMENT FOR MISS DHANIKA TRIPURA

Ms. Dhanika Tripura | 6 Years | Female | S/O – Mr. Dharma Kumar Tripura and Mrs. Sashibala Tripura | From – Nalin Para, Battali, Manu, Longtarai Valley Sub-Division, Dhalai District, Tripura

Issue : Dhanika Tripura was a patient suffering from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) on both eyes and belonged to a very underprivileged poor family in a remotest village under Longtarai Valley Subdivision. It was during the month of November 2017, when Dhanika was admitted to AGMC (GBP) Hospital, Agartala, due to high fever and itchiness in her both eyes, the patient parents learnt that she was suffering from Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia and the Medical doctors referred her to Regional Cancer Centre, Kunjaban, Agartala. The doctors showed less confidence in her recovery and recommended patient parents to treat the patient outside of state stating that the survivability was less than 5%. With only Rs. 200/- to Rs. 250/- daily wages earnings in family, it was impossible for Dhanika’s parents for outside of state treatment. At this juncture with no option left, her parents decided her rest days be spent at home.

Detailed Incident : It was during the month of November 2017, when video images of Dhanika was caught in the attentions of UTF members that a team of Dr. Amulya Debbarma, Mr. Philimon Jamatia and Mr. Sajal Debbarma decided to visit the patient. It was at this juncture the UTF visiting Dhanika in the Hospital show the patient’s parents all set with formalities for discharging of Dhanika from Hospital to take her back home. Upon the UTF visiting team continued insistence and pursuance, Patient’s parents were convinced to continue treatment of Dhanika. Dr. Amulya, member of UTF, and himself a Gynecologist, consulted with attending Doctors and decided to send to Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Institute in Guwahati without any further delay with immediate Rs. 12000/-contribution from himself and Mr. Philimon and others. Simultaneously, online crowd-funding through social media and Personal Contacts was initiated for treatment of Dhanika for Rs. 15 Lakhs under the complete supervision of Mr. Sajal Debbarma. The National and International online News Portal like THE SUN, DAILY MAIL, The London Economy, Metro, India TV, India Today, Patrika(Hindi), India.com, Express Digest and many more too came forward to appeal for helping out Dhanika.

While the Doctors in Dr. B. Barooah Cancer Institute without lapsing much time, had started the Induction Chemotherapy on Dhanika, the lacunae of sufficient blood level and platelet count in Dhanika’s body slowed the treatment. But where there is will and prayer, there is always a way and the answer; students from Tripura pursuing their degrees in Guwahati came willingly to support this humanity cause. People’s prayers and contributions for godly cause show the students donating their bloods to meet the requirement for 35-40 unit of (RBC & platelets) blood for almost two months and this paved way for induction chemotherapy on Dhanika again. UTF Team arranged for her for family members to accommodate in Guwahati for proper and quality care of Dhanika. The complete treatment in Guwahati would have been difficult without the sacrificial service attitude of few of our UTF members from Guwahati, especially, Mr. Riyadh, Mr. Simon, Mr. Pankaj, Dr. Jogiram and Tiprasa student’s organization from Guwahati. After spending 10 months in the hospital, Dhanika and recovering at speedily, on 5th of September 2018, Dhanika’s right eye, because of extensive damage, had to be operated and removed at Shankaradeva Nethralaya, Guwahati and artificial eye was implanted. After thirteen long months of continuous treatment, Dhanika was now fully recovered and returned home along-with her parents. Now, timely maintenance therapy is being done on her on regular basis.

Lessons learnt : In a world when people across the globe complain of biased and purchased news media houses and social activities claiming the dangers of social media, News agencies like UK based “DAILY MAIL”, “THE SUN”, “THE LONDON TIMES” National based “KHABRE.COM”, Android based news app “WAY2NEWS” including Hong Kong based News Media published the article of Dhanika in their news portal. The Face book platform with 643 supporters worldwide and 2400 sharing could help us receive more than 15 Lakhs for Online Crowd Funding for Dhanika’s treatment. We wish Dhanika to live a happy life ahead with her family and be a strong and dynamic lady for her family and her society.”
