Mr. Chandrakanta Debbarma | 26 Years | Male | Hatkata, Khowai District, Tripura
Issue : Mr. Chandrakanta Debbarma, uprising Muaythai Fighter, inhabitant of a remote village and belonging to a underprivileged family in Khowai District. He was anonymously selected by United Amateur Muaythai Association – India (UAMAI) to represent India (under 60 kg weight category) in the Asian Muaythai Championship, (prestigious championship organized under the banner of International Federation of Muaythai Amateur –IFMA, an organization recognized by the International Olympic Council IOC), to be held at Macau, China from 4th December 2018 to 10th December 2018. But the economic condition of the family was shattering his dreams of participating as enough money could not be afforded for VISA Pass and Journey expenses.
Detailed Incident : It was in the month of November 2018, when Mr. Raymond Bongcher, member of UTF, took the issue of Mr. Chandrakanta to the UTF Team and his financial conditions that was disintegrating his hopes of participating in the Asian Muaythai Championship to be held at Macau, China from 4th December 2018 to 10th December 2018 to represent India in (under 60 kg weight category). It is mentionable here that Mr. Chandrakanta is a good athlete and Muaythai fighter, who had already won 3 titles in the last three years at National championships. Also mentionable here that participating in Asian Muaythai Championship was important as this was the qualifier for one of the world prestigious championships “Arafura Games 2019”. The UTF team decided to help him as he was also representing Tripura in the National as well as Asian level. Eventually, he was contacted through Bro. Raymond, and kept in communication with Mr. Sajal and Mr. Pinku and his timely correspondence was taken seriously. Accordingly, crowd funding to help Chandrakanta was initiated through local communications and Social Media. It is also mentionable here that Ms. Chandra Tripura, working abroad in Macau, came across our news regarding helping Chandrakanta, and communicated the UTF team for helping him. By and by, on 23rd of November, the UTF team handed over the amount collected from all its members and well-wishers. However, when all formalities of his VISA pass, Journey expenses, and accommodation expenses were completed, an undesired sickness took over Chandrakanta. On 2nd December 2018, just the day before leaving for Macau, he got infected by Chicken pox (Varicella zoster virus), upon which the attending Doctors recommended him to remain isolated for 21 days. UTF encouraged Chandrakanta at these life discouraging moments and stood by his side and gave him full confidence for preparing with more inspiration for next upcoming events once he recovered fully.
Lessons learnt : “Being available for someone in the darkest and neediest hours of life is more meaningful than debating and criticizing someone. Youths the strength of our future dreams, are the neediest people in achieving their dreams and aspirations for a better future ahead. We explored and we have learned this. Now it’s our responsibility how we mentor and nurture them in their struggles. “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”You can also help by making a donation to UTF, recognized as Tripura’s most trusted NGO.
